In Reading we’re starting a novel by C. S. Lewis called The Magician’s Nephew. We’ve read chapter 1 and we are beginning to discuss and answer questions about what we’ve read. I hope everyone is enjoying it so far!
In History, we are learning about the study of geography and reading maps. We also use our Maps, Globes, and Graphs book for this. History is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.
Dear Parents and fifth graders,
I want to welcome you to Mrs. Candy’s fifth grade class! I hope you’ve had a fun-filled, relaxing summer break. This summer has flown by, (as I say every year!) and so we find ourselves starting a new school year already. My family and I have finally completed our new house and officially moved in. For those of you who don’t know, I have a daughter, Ally who will be in second grade and a son, Garrett who is starting kindergarten this year. My husband Alan works for TVA in Pickwick, and also stays busy with our small farm. We are active members of Sharon Baptist Church as well.
I can hardly wait to get to know each of you better this year! I am very excited about being your child’s teacher. I appreciate your prayers and support as we begin this journey together. Here’s a look at what to expect, because fifth grade is a bit different in a few ways. The students will have several teachers- Mrs. Patricia Campbell, math; Mrs. Vicki Gallik, science and PE; Coach Reid, Bible; Mrs. Lisa Pierce, math lab; and I will teach Language, Spelling/Penmanship, and History. Also, the students will have lockers this year!
As far as communication goes, we will be utilizing the SCA website teacher page again this year as well as RenWeb. These sites will include lesson plans, grades, special events and reminders, lunches, calendars and other pertinent information. Also, I will continue to update my web page with class happenings and send home Friday folders weekly. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have questions or concerns.
Remember, we’re all on the same team. I want this to be a successful year in which we work hand in hand to be imitators of Christ. I love the verse in Luke that says “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.” This is my heart’s desire for these children.
May God Bless you all,
Mrs. Candy Smith
